The Great Gweek Pottery Throwdown

The Great Gweek Pottery Throwdown runs on the first Saturday of every month from 1.30 to 5 pm. Every month we complete a different project which is completed in a single session and is designed for all levels including beginners. We build the pieces in the first 2 hours and then stop for tea and cake before decorating with slips and underglazes. I have been running these classes for several years and we have completed many different projects and it’s always fun to see the very different looking final pieces. Creative freedom is encouraged as long as the pieces will fit in the kiln! The pieces are bisc fired before glazing with transparent glaze and firing again and ready for collection about 3 weeks later.

March – Leach inspired slab building vases.
April – painting on slabs with slip and newspaper transfer for landscape effect.
May – tiles and surface decoration.
June – herb pestle and mortar, garlic plate.
July – chicken egg holder.
September – stitch to clay – impressing material to create vases or other creations.
October – Guineapigs and rabbits.
November – Christmas decorations.
